I Shouldn't Love You, but I Want To

Alex was taken aback but quickly recovered.
"You... you have everything.. You wouldn't be alone. You have your mom and Libby... You're better off without me." Alex said truthfully, tears pouring out of his cobalt blue eyes.

"But I love you dammit!" Evan said. "I love you more than I've ever loved anyone....."

"I love you too. I tried to kill myself 'cause it'd be the best for you. All I'm gonna do is cause you trouble Evan. You have a perfect life, I'm just ruining it..." A lump formed in the back of his throat preventing him from continuing.

"No you're not," Evan sighed softly. "You're helping me more than you know baby."

"How?" Alex croaked, lip trembling.

"You're helping me learn to love again."

Alex finally lost the fight against his eyelids and they closed.
"Love you." He murmured. He wanted to keep talking but he was too tired.

"Love you too," Evan murmured.

"I mean it." Alex yawned, trying to hold his arms open for a hug. He only managed to lift them about an inch off of the mattress.

Evan smiled wrapping his arms around Alex.

"Sorry." He whispered before drifting off.

"S'okay," Evan whispered, placing a soft kiss on Alex's forehead.

Alex gave a small smile as he fell asleep.

Evan fell asleep in the chair by his bed.

Alex was in the hospital for a week or two, recovering. When he finally went back to school, he walked in with his head held high. He ignored all the stares, whispers and rumors that revolved around the scar on his neck and the few people who knew what really happened. He no longer sat with the jocks at lunch just because they were cool. He sat with Evan all by themselves in the back. And he couldn't have been happier.
