Listen To The Thunder

Kevin was running blindly through the cemetery, his vision blurred by tears as he ran through the grave yard he knew so well. His father and him were fighting, sure the fought but this was just horrible, what his father has said to him replayed over and over in his head. Kevin yelled in pain as his shin bone struck the newest head stone. Someone died just that day and were laid to rest, Kevin didn't know; he fell fast first into the moist dirt, side of his face hitting another jagged stone. Kevin couldn't move anymore. He laid there, withering in pain as thunder boomed and lighting light the sky. Kevin let out a sob as he curled into a ball. He was see able but not touchable, except for the stones for other people souls.

Rick had been walking by when he noticed the familiar boy running. He stopped and walked closer. Sure enough it was Kevin Riley.
"Kevin?" Rick called.

Kevin jumped and lifted his head enough to see his brother in law.
"G-Go away Rick!"

"Kev, what's goin on? What's wrong?" Rick said softly bending down in the dirt.

Kevin pushed himself up and wiped the mud from his face.
"D-Daddy.."

Rick wiped away the rest of the mud.
"What'd Alex do this time?"

"H-He said he was h-happy I had never b-been born! H-He was g-glad I was a fucking m-miscarriage!" Kevin sobbed brokenly.

"Oh Kev..." Rick sighed, dragging a hand across his face. He loved Alex like a brother but sometimes he needed to learn when to shut up."

Kevin shook his head and moved away to lean against the head stone.
He had tried so hard to get Alex to love him like he loved Sydney and Alex Jr but no....

"Kevin, he loves you. I know he does. He's just... Well, he's just Alex." Rick sighed.

"No! There is no reason for him to say that! He is happy Im dead! Happy I never got a chance at life! I never got to have friends! I never got to have a girlfriend or boyfriend! Never had a daddy and when I do look at this shit! I never had date or a first time! I haven't lived and he is fucking glad!" Kevin sobbed. "I didn't even get a first kiss,"

"He ain't glad Kevin. He tends to say shit when his' upset or pissed that he doesn't mean." Rick said softly.

"Y-You dont just say that to your child....E-Especially the one who never got the chance at life and he said he as h-happy!" Kevin sobbed.

Rick frowned. He placed a hand on the back of Kevin's neck and kissed him sweetly.
"First kiss. There ya go." He gave a small smile.

Kevin stared at him wide eyed before letting another sob out. "G-Geee thats sweet....B-But its not like the first k-kiss Iwas thinking of. Y-Your my brother in l-law, y-you love S-Sydney. I-It was a w-wonderful f-first kiss but its n-not like I have a future with y-you."
He had always thought that first kiss, he would be with whoever gave hi his first kiss for a long time...maybe even forever.

"I can't love you too?" Rick raised an eyebrow at Kevin.

Kevin wiped his tears away but they kept coming.
"N-Not like that...."

"Why not?" Rick asked as he looked down at the younger man.

"B-Because you have a wife and child!" Kevin sobbed and let out a pained growl.

"Sydney and I..." They'd had their first huge fight. and neither one of them knew how to handle it...

"Wh-What about you and S-Sydney?" Kevin it back another sob, his body trembling as he tried to hold it all in.

"We're fighting... it's bad. And I don't know if we can fix it this time." They'd been having lots of tiny arguments lately.

"O-Oh....S-So im the rebound?" Kevin looked up with big watery eyes, tears dripping down his cheeks.

"No Kevin...." Rick shook his head. "I've always sort of liked you... It's just okay to now."

He sniffled and gave a nod.
"I-I like you too b-but you were always S-Sydney's"
