Catch Me When I Fall

Saturdays were usually Evan's favorite day of the week, because it was one of the few days where he could actually wake up with Chris beside him. And while the elder blonde was indeed sleeping on his side of the bed, Evan was far from happy. His stomach had been bothering him all night, so he hadn't gotten a lot of sleep. And now, to add to the problem, Evan was pretty sure he had a fever as well. Deciding to take a quick shower to try and cool off, Evan slipped out of bed and tiptoed into the bathroom. Slipping his sleeping clothes off, he turned the water on and stepped in, moaning as the lukewarm spray instantly began to cool his overly warm skin. The soothing effect was actually making him quite drowsy and Evan found himself sliding closer and closer to the bottom of the tub, even though common sense dictated that this was a very bad idea.

Now curled up on the bottom of the tub, Evan gave a soft moan and passed out, silently promising himself that he'd only sleep for a few minutes and then he'd go back to bed. He never woke up again....not for quite some time.........

Chris awoke to the sound of running water, coolness of the spot where Evan should be and steam. Chris slowly got up, rubbing his eyes, he looked around to find that Evan was no in bed with him; this was odd. Chris slowly got up and stretched, walking to the bathroom. "Evan," Chris started but didn't finish what he was saying because at the bottom of the tub, but Evan. Chris let out a loud string of curses, quickly going to the tub and grabbing Evan up out of it. "Evan!" Chris yelled, lightly popping his lovers cheek and doing CPR. "Evan!" Chris yelled again, mild hysteria setting in.

Evan's breathing was incredibly shallow, his heart rate slow. his normally tan skin was so pale it looked like he was made of fragile porcelain. As his fever caused the water droplets on him to slowly fade, the film of sweat that began to cover him only made him that much more sickly looking.

Chris cursed again and picked Evan up, taking him to the hospital. Once they got there the doctors took Evan from Chris and he was left out in the waiting room all alone, every bab thing that could be wrong playing over and over again in his chest.

Evan was seen by the doctors and admitted directly to the ICU. They put him on a ventilator because he was dangerously close to respiratory arrest and for the moment he was heavily sedated, but even unconscious Evan was moaning in pain, the soft groans occasionally slipping past the ventilator.

They were seriously considering sedating Chris. It was ICU so considering it was quiet time, Chris was not allowed back to see Evan so yes, he was fighting and the doctors didn't know what to do.

Evan's condition was getting worse. His fever was consistently hovering close to 105, if it went any higher he could die. He lay so still, that the only sign he was still alive was the beeping of the heart monitor. And what was worse,
Chris wasn't allowed to be with him. Without his lover's presence, Evan was in a virtual freefall towards a painful death.

Finally quiet time was up and they let Chris back to see Evan; that is after he tretend to kill thm all. Chris got into Evan's room and took his lovers hand, kissing it softly. "Evan, baby....." Chris didn't know what to do, all he knew was that his lover was not doing to good and Chris couldn't let anythng happen to his Evvy. "Baby, why didn't you tell me you felt sick." Was all Chris could get out.

Evan's head turned toward the sound of Chris's voice and his eyelashes were fluttering wildly in an attempt to open.

"Evan, baby," Chris cooed. "Easy now, don't push yourself, just relax and focus on getting better." Chris reasoned, his thumb rubbing over Evan's hand.

Evan let out a soft whimper, his eyelids now still. His hand shifted slightly, trying his best to grip on Chris's hand. As weak as he was this was nearly impossible, but he wasn't going to give up.

Chris squeezed Evan's hand gently. "Baby, don't." Chris kissed Evan's clamy palm. "Say you energy."

Evan began to calm down after that. He did not whimper again that day.

Chris sat by Evan whenever the doctors would let him and when they wouldn't he waited in the waiting room for the next visiting hour. Chris looked like hell, he hadn't eaten or sleept since they put Evan in ICU.

Evan's condition continued to improve as the day progressed. He was soon well enough to be taken off the sedative.

Again, quiet time was over so they let Chris in to see Evan. "Hey, Baby," Chris said as he sat down in a chair by Evan's sick bed. "How are you feeling?"

Evan's brown eye opened slowly to stare up at Chris before glaring at the ventilator tube down his throat.

"You don't need to speak baby, just relax okay." Chris kissed Evan's cheek. "I'll be here and when your better we can talk."

Evan glanced at the empty spot in his bed, then at Chris. He repeated the process a few times.

Chris smiled slightly and asked. "Would you like me to lay with you baby?" Chris quickly added. "Nod once or yes, twice for no."

Evan nodded once, his brown eyes pleading.

"Okay baby." Chris laid down beside Evan, carfully not to jar or really make any contact with his lover for fear of hurting him bot meesing up one of the many tubes and machines.

Evan rested his head against Chris, staring up at the older blonde lovingly.

Chris started down at Evan with a tired, upset, but loving, gaze. "I don't know what I would do without you."

Evan nodded, eyes slowly drifting shut again.
