Maybe because he had taken a sweet, smiling, driven ten year old and turned him into a sobbing 'bad boy' who though it was all his fault.

Maybe because instead of like the others and just being scared...This boy feared him but he hugged him, he kissed h a place he had hurt him....
It was like he cared for the larger man.

Barry wasn't used to being cared for.
He'd played with Gabriel's head for a while and made the boy fall for him but this... was different.
