Rose Colored Glasses

"N-Nothing." Mike stuttered, a hand rubbing at his cheek softly, as he stood looking into space with hurt eyes.

Alex froze. Mike remembered.
"Oh honey, see? I didn't want to hurt you again, that's why I didn't say it."

"Its fine...." Mike waved him off, remembering the pain in his cheek and what it felt like to have his heart shatter and stick into his stomach.

"Mikey I'm sorry." Alex said, shaking his head.

"Don't worry about it, I had it coming." Mike said as he tried to shake the coldness that had settled in his heart away.

"No you didn't baby."

Mike shrugged and sat back on the bed. It didn't matter anymore but it was still painful, he had nightmares about it.

Alex leaned over and hugged Mike tight. He hadn't wanted to go through this again, he felt awful.

Mike laughed. "You remember that song?" Mike questioned, thinking of the song Alex had written him.

"Mhm." Alex smiled vaguely.

"It's 3 AM and I finally say I'm sorry for acting that way I didn't really mean to make you cry oh baby, sometimes I wonder why." Mike sang softly, glancing at Alex.

"Does it always have to come down to you leaving before I'll say I love you why do I always use the words that cut the deepest when I know how much it hurts you? Oh baby why, do I do that to you?" Alex joined in.

Mike quested down and thought back to that night, listening to Alex sing. "I love that song." Mike said quietly.

"I'm glad you do." Alex grinned.

"Alex, do you think the kids are aware of what happened that night?" Mike questioned.

"I doubt it honey. They were only a few months old."

"They know how much we fight........" Mike trailed off, did that mean they weren't meant to be?

"All couples fight baby." Alex reassured.

"But we fight more than we should." Mike whimpered.

"Not that much.." Alex reasoned, but they did fight more than most people.

"Lier......do you think it means......We weren't meant to be?" Mike said, his voice cracking on the last 5 words.

Alex gasped.
"No honey! Not at all! Why would you think that?" He frowned.

"Well....we aren't supposed to fight so much but we do....What else does it mean?" Mike looked at Alex, hugging him tightly.

"It just means we are two very stubborn men." Alex chuckled.

"Alex........." Mike sighed and hung his head, Alex couldn't ever be serious. "Alex, this is serious. What if our fights end us one day?"
