In the Blink of an Eye

Jeff never saw the car coming. He was so lost in thought on his bike that by the time the car hit him it was too late. He few thirty feet in the air and landed on the asphalt below. Now he was unconscious in a hospital room with serve injuries. Doctors weren't sure he would make it.

Matt sat in the waiting worried he had gotten the call about Jeff over a hour ago and he still couldn't see him

The doctor walked into the room. "Mr. Hardy?" the doctor asked.

Matt got up quickly "yes hows Jeff? "

The doctor sighed. "I'm not going to lie to you, your brother is in critical condition. He wasn't wearing his helmet at the time of the collision, he also had some internal bleeding and a few broken bones."

Matt nodded numbly he was afraid the doctor was going to say that "can i see him?"

The doctor nodded. "He hasn't woken up up, but I can take you to him."

Matt followed the doctor to the room

Jeff lay perfectly still on the bed, his chest slowly rose and fell as he lay there, still unconscious. The whole right side of his face was bruised from the landing.

Matt sat besides Jeff's bed his heart broke to see him like that

Jeff moaned in pain, but did not move.

Matt gently took Jeff's hand and whispered "Jeffro"

Jeff moaned again, but gave no other response.

Matt started crying softly he would never get to tell Jeff now "Jeff please wake up"

Jeff hand twitched a bit. he started moving it slowly, as if to be searching for where the voice was coming from.

Matt didn't notice this and continued "please Jeff wake"

Jeff moaned again, his hand continued to strain for the source of the sound.

"please Jeff i love you please just wake up" sobbed Matt

Jeff's eyelids fluttered slowly in an attempt to reveal the green orbs behind them. He groaned softly and opened his eyes, scanning the room carefully.

"Jeff" whispered Matt afraid he was dreaming "your awake"

Jeff turned a worried eye toward his brother. "Matt....where am I?" Jeff asked. He needed Matt to confirm what he was afraid of.

Matt swallowed nervously "Jeff your in the hospital"

Jeff whimpered. He hated hospitals. "Mattie...." Jeff whimpered, almost childishly.

"Jeffro your going to be ok" said Matt trying to calm Jeff down

Jeff reached for the older man. He need to feel him there. He needed to feel safe.
