Can't Do It Alone

"I'm so happy I have you," Evan whispered finally.

Randy simply nodded, knowing if he opened his mouth, there was no stopping the tears.

Evan stood up and walked over to Randy. "I know it's hurting you, and I'm sorry."

"S'okay." Randy murmured.

"I'm hurting you and that's the last thing I wanna do," Evan replied.

"I'm fine." Randy mumbled, scooting away.

"Baby...." Evan sighed.

"Really. I'm okay. Go-" Randy stopped himself from making a rude comment.
He knew Evan was hurting right now. He was too but Evan was his top priority.

"You don't know what today is do you?"

"Guess not." Randy said.

"It's been a year Randy, one whole year since we lost him and I get this bomb dropped on me today of all days?" Evan said.

Randy simply stood and walked away, a mixture of hurt and anger on his face.

Evan stood up. "What, what's your problem?" Evan asked, hurt.

Randy spun around, fury clear on his face.
"Do you stop to think how i feel? How it feels when I spend all my time trying to help you, to love you, to love Dessi and all you do is fucking mope around like you're all alone in this world?!?" Randy shouted after closing Dessi's bedroom door so she wouldn't hear.

Evan glared at him. "Do you have any fucking idea what it's like to watch the love of your life wither away in front of you?" Evan asked. "Do you have any idea how it feels to hold their hand when they take their last breath?!" "To not be able to look at your daughter for months without being reminded that the reason they are here is gone?!"

"No i don't! But I'd like to think that having me would help at least one fucking bit! You're acting like you have nothing! You'd still be living on the streets if I hadn't found you that night! Hell, you'd be fucking dead! Maybe that's what you want, so you can go be with your precious fucking Chris!" Randy growled.

Tears formed in Evan's eyes. "What you think just because I have you now I'm going to forget him?" Evan asked. "Like just because you're here I'm supposed to let him go?"

"Y'know what?" Randy shook his head. "Just stop telling me you love me. I don't want lies."

Evan whimpered. "I do love you," Evan protested.

Randy rolled his eyes and walked outside, slamming the door behind him. He got in the car and just drove. A nice drive always cleared his head.

While Randy was gone, Evan started packing his and Dessi's belongings.

Randy walked back in the door taking calming, deep breaths. He wasn't ready to apologize but he didn't want to fight. He knew Dessi would be awake now.

Evan already had the bags by the door, he was putting Dessi's coat on her when Randy came back.

"What are you doing?" Randy asked.

"We're leaving," Evan said simply. Dessi squirmed. "Daddy, no!" she cried out. "I wanna stay here!"
