The Mighty Have Fallen

Gilbert waited on the couch for the boys to come home, report cards had come in the mail that morning. He was used to yelling at Jeff for his grades, but not this time.

Matt walked in after getting home from a hard day at school

"Matthew," Gilbert spoke firmly, get in here and sit down I wanna talk to ya."

Matt was counfused "yes sir." he sat down

Gilbert held the paper up. "You wanna explain that ta me boy?" He asked. "I know this Health Sciences class ain't important to ya, but if you don't pass it, you won't graduate, and right now, you ain't passin."

Matt swallowed nervous he had hoped his dad wouldn't find out he was failing his health sciences class

"Now are you going to sit there like a bump on a log or do you have somethin' ta say for yourself?" Gilbert asked.

"i'm sorry dad but i've been havin touble with that class."

"Y'know I woulda expected this outta your brother," Gilbert said, shaking his head. "but you, I thought you knew better."

Matt looked down ashamed, he knew his dad was upset

"Alright boy, cell phone, hand it over," Gilbert said. He wasn't happy with Matt at all.

Matt sighed and handed it over, he knew that next he was probaly grounded

"Done talked to your coach this mornin," Gilbert said. "You're off the team til that grade comes up."

Matt was shocked "but dad we have a big game soon." he said

"I don't wanna hear it Matthew," Gilbert spoke sternly. "Ya shoulda thought a that and paid a little more attention in class."

Matt looked down and said "yes sir"

"Now you got a choice here boy," Gilbert said. "Either I can ground you til I get proof the grade is up where I want it, or I can take the switch to ya, you're lucky I'm in a good mood I'd give ya both of em."

Matt swallowed and said "ground me sir." he didn't want the swich

Gilbert nodded. But you better keep your brother under control when he gets home, he ticks me off you'll be gettin' both, understand?"

Matt nodded and went to his room, this was terrible

Their neighbor and best friend, Samantha Delessio had watched everything from her front porch. She climbed in through Matt's window. "Mattie?"

"hey Sammy." said Matt sadly he was usely happy to see his best friend but not today

"I saw everything," the brunette said, laying a hand on Matt's shoulder.

Matt sighed "great at least i don't have to expliane it to you."

"Matt, we have that class together, why didn't you come to me for help?" Samantha asked. "You know I have a perfect A in there."
