Don't Tell Me That it's Over

Samantha continued checking Amy's basic vials, using her left hand, her stronger hand to do so, gently stroking Amy's hair with her right. She could barely do anything with that hand anyways. "Just try to relax sweetheart," Samantha murmured. "The boys did the right thing bringing you to me."

Amy nodded then she coughed again harder this time

"How long have you been like this?" Samantha asked, recording the results she had so far. She needed to gauge how much worse Amy was going to get, and how soon.

"since last night" answered Amy

Samantha nodded. This meant she had plenty of time to tried to fight the virus before it got too bad, she hoped it was enough. She placed the temporal thermometer against Amy's temple. She trusted these more, and they were easier.

Amy cough and waited for Samantha to finish

After Samantha had finished up she was left with nothing to do but wait for the results of Amy's blood work to come back.

Amy looked at Samantha and asked "when will you know whats wrong?"

"As soon as the blood work comes back honey," Samantha said. She tried her best to hide the worry in her deep blue eyes.

"whats wrong honey you've looked worried all night?" asked Amy

"If this is what I think it is, things are gonna get a lot worse really quickly," Samantha sighed. She didn't have the heart to lie to Amy.

Amy nodded "but i'll get better right?" she asked

Samantha nodded silently. I hope so she added mentally.

Amy gave a smiled and coughed she hated being sick

Samantha looked up when the lab tech tapped lightly on the door. She took the paper they offered her. Amy's blood work. "Damnit," she cursed softly at the results.

"what is it honey?"asked Amy nervously

"It's that virus going around," Samantha sighed. "Just like I thought."

Amy looked at Samantha "is there something your not telling me honey?"

"We've lost quite a few people to this recently," Samantha said, her voice already cracking. "I'm scared of losing you...."

Amy grabbed Samantha's hand "i know honey but i think i'm going to be ok"

Samantha blinked back the tears, she couldn't let her emotions cloud her better judgement. This was exactly why people were supposed to take care of the people they loved, their emotions always got in the way.

Amy coughed hard she was still getting sicker

"I'll be right back okay sweetheart?" Samantha asked. She turned to Matt. "Come find me if anything happens."

Matt nodded he looked at Amy, Amy just coughed and shut her eyes she as tired

Samantha went down to the supply room to get the supplies to run an IV on Amy, all the while she could hear the cries of the patients in later stages of the virus. She swallowed the lump in her throat and headed back to the room.
