"Swear dad." He nodded, pecking his temple

"Touched you inappropriately or not let you eat?" Dustin frowned at his child.

"Ew no and no." Devin shook his head with a sigh.

"So....He was just neglectful...." He hummed lightly.
It really wasnt bad....
But to Dustin it was an offense punishable by death.

"Yes daddy it wasn't too bad..." It had felt like hell to a four year old though.

"It was...and im taking care of it....if up to me he wont ever see his kids again and if he does....well he wont ever see us again."

"DAddy I think youre overreacting..." He frowned.

"I think im underreacting." He frowned deeply, carding his fingers through his sons hair.

"I'm fine now daddy... hes a good momma to his real kids." He sighed

"Your his stepson, you are his kid one way." He shook his head at Devin.

"But I was made cause momma cheated. Thats why he dont like me or Titan."

"I know but if Chris can be nice then he could too and he wasnt. And im not scared to tell your momma I did this."

"Please don't." He sighed. His mother wouldn't be mad at Dustin he'd be mad at Devin...

"Okay....I wont if you dont want me to baby.." He sighed and shook his head.

"Okay dad. Thanks..." They couldn't be mad at a dying man...

And that was a thing with Dustin, he didnt want to be treated like he was dying, he wanted to be treated like he always was...
"Baby..." He sighed. "Dont you go treatin me weird like everyone else now alright? Im not just a dying man, im your father, I want to be treated like you always treated me...now everyone is tip toeing around me and I hate it.:

Devin sighed.
"I love you though... you're sick and I wantt to be as sweet as possible while you're here..."

"Hey, Sweetie....I wanna live while I can....Everyone treating me nice is not living....My life is arguing with my kids and protecting them from everything, my life is having Alex and Rick yell at me for god knows what, my life is taking you fishing and riding, my life is you being pissed at me half the time. My life is cracking jokes at my husband, making love until the early morning hours and fighting like their is no tomorrow. My life is on this farm I care for every time I feel I can....My life......is perfect how it is....This...the way your treating me is not living.....its like already being dead."

Devin sighed.
"But what if I treat you like normal and you die suddenly? and the last words I said to you were something awful..."

"Yeah...But I would know you love me enough to fight with me....I know you love me, Im not like Mike or Alex or Rick or Kevin. I fucking know im loved....I dont worry about it. You say things...I know you dont mean them...its alright."

"I'd never be able to live with myself though." He shook his head. "ITs gonna be hard enough living without you."

"Hey, you can live without me, and You will be fine...Because you should know that you had a part in making my life worth living...No your not my husbands real son but I love you more than just about anything..."

"You're... gonna be gone." He drug a hand down his face to keep from crying.

Dustin hugged his son tighter, kissing the top of his head.

While he could be here to hold him...

Devin nuzzled his father's neck, hugging onto him.
If Lane proposed his father wouldn't know. His father wouldn't be here for the wedding to walk him down the aisle... If he got pregnant Dustin would never meet his grandbaby...
