Cowgirls Don't Cry.

Dustin cursed, gently throwing Dewayne out of the kitchen, grabbing a paper towel for his noes and dropping to his knees by his son, taking Devin's wrist and yanking the boy to his chest, hugging him tightly.
"Shhhh Im alright, its not the end of the world, he just broke my nose, im fine baby."

"I'll fucking kill him..." Devin shook his head, digging his palms into his eyes.

Dustin pulled his hands back, looking into his son's eyes.
His face was missing the vibrant color it once had, his nose still dripping blood. His eyes sunken in and his lips thin so unlike always...
He looked dead already...
"Im alright Devin..."

Devin trembeld at how sickly his father looked. He'd never make it without Dustin...

Dustin's hand pressed to the base of Devin's neck, pulling his son in so he could press a firm kiss to his forehead.
"Baby...." Dustin panted a moment, his chest heaving.
He was out of breath...
"Your going to be alright, and I will be too...some cancer patients live on years before dying and some get better..."

Devin held him close, saying nothing... His father was dyign and everyone knew...

Yes, Dustin knew he was dying but he didn't want his baby harping over it.
"Devin son......."
He wondered if he would make it past fathers day next month.

"What daddy..." He looked away.

"Listen here....Until your ready to let me go...Ill fight this as hard as I can alright?"
It hurt...he hated it, cancer was painful....He was losing handfuls of hair every day, his abdomen bruised where his bones sat against something hard, pressing his skin and bruising it from the inside, and the bruises never healed....they stayed there for a long time...

"O-okay..." He'd never be ready to let him go...

Dustin sighed softly and held Devin close.
"But if I do die....I want you to remember me with a smile baby..."

"I will eventually... it might take a while but I will..." He nodded.

Dustin smiled himself, hugging his son tightly and rocking him back and forth, kissing his temple lightly.

Devin took a few minutes but stood, wiping his eyes. He was done... he hated crying all the time.

Dustin frowned, forcing himself up on wobbly feet, stumbling lightly before he caught himself on the edge of the kitchen table.

Devin hugged him, leading him back into the room and glaring at Dewayne.
"Mommas gonna be pissed." He grumbled.

"Yeah well my momma is gone because of stupid ass so big fucking whoop." Dewayne growled.
"Aint that cancer killed you yet asshole?"
Dustin snorted, his eyes soft on his son. "Not yet, but when it does you'll be the first to know babe."

"I'm going to fucking murder your ass before he dies." He snarled.

Dustin shook his head.
"Dev, this is between me and Dewayne, stay out of it baby."

"No.... you're my daddy too and he's being an ass to you.." He sighed.

"Yes I am your daddy too but me and Dewayne have a special understanding. Dont get involved Devin. Just because im sick does not mean you get away without listening to what I say."

"I'm not gonna let him hit on you daddy." He shook his head. He simply wouldn't.

"Devin im telling you, You will stay out of it or go to your room and done come out. Im still the father here."

Devin glared.
"Fine. I will unless he hits you again."

"You will stay out of it either way! I dont fucking want you in this alright? Im tired of you and Chris and everyone babying me. Im a grown fucking man." Dustin grumbled, stalking off outside, the door slamming behind him.
