Mistakes

Alex followed his husband into the bathroom.
"You okay baby?" He asked softly.

"Alex........" Mike took a deep breath he was afraid of the answer. "Have you ever thought that marrying me was a mistake....I was a mistake?" Mike closed his eyes.

"Mikey, you know that is a ridiculous question." Alex said. "Of course I haven't. I don't regret one thing I've done with you."

"Think hard Alex, id there anything you would change about me." Mike asked as he turned to see his reflection in the mirror.

"Yes.... I wish you'd put yourself first sometimes. Don't think of others so much before yourself. You're too nice for your own good." Alex smiled. "And stop hating on yourself so much. You're an amazing man and all you do is insult yourself. Have a bit of confidence." Alex grinned, puncuating this with a kiss to Mike's cheek.

Mike stared at himself and Alex in the mirror. Alex look immaculate, he always did. Alex was so perfect, so loving, he deserved way better than Mike. Mike looked at himself beside Alex, he didn't belong there, Alex should have a strong, handsome, confident man. All Mike saw was the greatest man in the world up against the most worthless being on the planet. Mike had no confidence, and everyone else and there lives were worth more than him.
"Alex, I think we should get a divorce." Mike whispered, it seemed as if his world crumble as he said that, but Alex deserved so much better and without Mike in his way, he could find someone that was worthy of his lover.

"H-honey we can't." Alex's head seemed to spin at those words. "The kids and... I love you. No... I don't want one." Nothing seemed to be making since. "No." He whispered firmly, shaking his head.

"B-But Alex. What if I want one." Mike voice cracked, he didn't want one, that was the last thing he wanted, he wouldn't be able to take it but Alex needed someone better.

"I... please no." Alex said, voice cracking as the tears welled up in his eyes.
"I'm sorry for whatever I did. Is it cause i wanted you to top? You don't have to! I'm sorry, just please no Mike. Please." Alex shook his head furiously as the tears rolled down his cheeks.

Mike wasn't so sure he could do this now that his lover was crying. Mike could never take his tears. "Wh-Why not?" Mike asked, if he didn't have a good enough reason, Mike couldn't stay, couldn't let Alex continue to waste his live with Mike.

Alex looked at Mike incredulously.
"I love you!" He screamed, know crying in hysterics. "I love you! You c-can't just leave! Wh-what did I do?"

"Nothing, y-you didn't do anything." Mike stroked Alex's hair. "But.....you....Alex...." Mike sighed.

"But what? W-why do you want to l-leave?!" Alex shouted, head in his hands.

"Shhhhhh Alex," Mike was now afraid and he really didn't want to leave, he had no where to go but Critters and he would rather be here in his lovers arms.

"W-why?" Alex whimpered softly, looking up at his husband with pained, tear filled eyes.

"Alex baby, you need a stable husband. Someone who deserves you, a strong, handsome man that wont cause so many problems. Baby this is for your own good." Mike said as he stroked Alex's cheek.

"No!" Alex sobbed.
"I won't sign the p-papers. I won't." He cried clutching handfuls of Mike's shirt, not caring he sounded childish.

"Alex, now do you really have a choice?" Mike asked, he didn't want this. He wanted Alex to stop crying, he felt like he would do anything to make the tears stop.

Alex nodded.
"I won't do it. You c-can't leave." He shook his head even harder this time.

"Wh-Why can't I? You did." Mike reminded him, petting his back softly, trying to sooth his lover.

"I d-didn't want a divorce." Alex cried, burying his head in the crook of Mike's neck.

Mike hugged Alex to him tightly. "Baby, this is for the best. You need a stable man that can please you, help you and make you happy instead of causing problems." Mike whispered, kissing Alex's ear.

"You do help me! You make me happy! You always make me happy except right now!" Alex sobbed.

"Alex, were you happy when Daffy was around? Were you happy when I ran away from you? Were you happy when I stayed away from you after you hit me? Were you happy when I had the eating disorder? Were you happy when I lost our babies?" Mike asked, his heart breaking in to and falling into his stomach.

"Mike, no one is perfect. No matter who I'm with I won't be happy 24/7 but I know I'm meant to be with you."
