How You Remind Me

"Sarah please let me keep it." Alex said softly.

"Why? You don't love him anymore. Whats the point in having the ring that represents him and you....there is no him and you anymore, you left him."

Alex looked over at Critter. His eyes were shining with hurt. They said what he couldnt say aloud right now, 'please make her stop'. He didn't want to dislike the woman Critter loved so much. So he didn't want to get nasty with her.

Critter sighed. "Sarah, its his ring."
The women sighed. "So, its not his husband."
Critter shook his head. "Sarah."
"You don't have your ring anymore. You gave it up for him." She reminded.
"Thats different..."
There was no getting through to Sarah.

"It was nice meeting you Sarah." Alex said and walked out of the cemetary. He climbed into the passenger seat of the truck and locked the door.

Critter sighed. "Sarah honey."
"No, you gave My ring away. I have yours you had mine, you gave it up. Why can't he do the same?"
"I don't know but I love him to much to hurt him and make him let it go....It was Mike's and you know no matter what he says....he will always love Mike to some extent."
She sighed and kissed Critters cheek before he went to his truck and knocked on the door.

Alex unlocked the drivers side door so Critter could get in but he didn't speak.

Critter picked up Alex's hurt hand and kissed it. "You okay Boo?" He asked as he shut the door and started the car.

"I'm fine." Alex lied. His hand was fucking broken and now his heart ached too.

Critter sighed and turned the truck around, his destination the hospital. He kissed the hand to feel it and it WAS broken, he also wanted to let Alex know he cared. "Your lying Alex. Talk to me baby."

"I... I feel awful. You gave up your ring for me. And I can't... You know I love you more. But I feel wrong for still loving Mike as much as I do when I'm with you." He sighed.

Critter looked at him from the corner of his eye. "Alex.....don't feel bad. Its fine to still love Mike...." His eyes turned back to the road to watch traffic, his mind wheeling.

"It doesn't feel okay to me..." Alex sighed. "I'm trying to give you my whole heart. I know you've given me yours. But there's this tiny section that won't cooperate..."

"Alex.....I think that small part belongs to Mike." He sighed, it couldn't be helped and he supposed Mike deserved it.

"I want it to be yours..." Alex frowned. Mike deserved a part of him. But he felt awful that Critter gave him his everything and he couldn't do the same in return.

"Alex baby.....do you really want to take everything Mike has? He used to have your whole heart and....I stole it from him and now.....if I take that he has nothing."

"He deserves it... but I know you want it darlin." Alex said.

Critter sighed. "Alex you love him. Not like you swore you always would but you do..."

"Lane I'm sorry." Alex frowned, burying his head in Critter's neck.

Critter parked his truck in the lobby and put his arms around Alex. "You love him and its okay....He was yours for twenty five years....The mother of your children...And the love of your life."

Alex nodded.
"Just know around ninety five percent of my heart is all yours." He kissed Critter's forehead. "Now why are we at the hospital?"

"Im getting that hand looked at Boo." He said firmly. He was going to take care of his fiance.

"Fine." Alex didn't bother arguing. It really did hurt. Bad.

Critter got out and then got Alex out. Taking his uninjured hand and leading him into the hospital.
It was definitely broken.

"Damn Daffy." Alex muttered. He knew Daffy hadn't broken his hand but he was the one who made him angry enough to do something stupid like punch a head stone.
