How You Remind Me

Critter was told to wait as they took care of Alex. His doctor was gossiping about 'the cancer ghost' on the oncology floor.

Alex was curious.
"What ghost?" He asked.

"Some ghost that likes to sit in a certain room. You walk by and you can see him sitting on the bed hugging himself, looking out the window. But when you walk in he just disappears."

Alex frowned.
"What does he look like?" He asked.

"hmmmm his is a good looking man. looks as if he could be six foot...maybe weighs two hundred twenty pounds. Brown hair and blue eyes." Can't be sure, no one else gets close enough to talk to him or even enters the room but if you go by the room and look in the window....he is always there.

Alex's heart sunk. It was Mike. He was positive.

"Some say he is waiting for some one to come get him. Some say he is waiting for his lover. Some say he died there and has no where else to go. Some say he was left there all alone and didn't know what to do." The doctor shrugged.

Alex nodded and simply waited for him to finish in silence.

When the doctor was done he gave Alex some pain pills and told him they had Critter signing papers and he was free to go.

Alex quickly walked out to Critter. He wanted to go walk by the room. Maybe he'd see Mike.

Critter was just finishing his papers up and handing them in when he saw his fiance.

"Baby... can you stay here a sec? I wanna go see something."

Critter nodded and sat back down. He didn't know what was going on but he would wait.

Mike sat at his spot on the bed. He hugged himself tightly as tears slowly made there way down his cheeks. He watched out the window thinking about what he had lost, humming at tune into the cold, silent, dark, lonely room.

Alex walked up to the room he didn't have to ask for the room number. He had it memorized.
Sure enough, there was Mike sitting on the bed.
"Mikey." Alex whispered.

The ghost shivered the tears glistening as the moon light fell on his face and light up his blue eyes.

Alex took a few steps forward and sat on the bed beside Mike.

The ghost immediately disappeared, the air became even colder. All that was left was a soft tune and the wet drops on the bed.

"Mike. Please come back. I... I miss you baby."

A harsh wind blew through the room the ghost transparent as it sat in its previous spot. "Im not your baby.....Lane is..." The voice was hollow and broken. Empty and cold.

"You'll always be my baby Mikey." Alex sighed. It felt so good to simply hear his voice again.

"No.....I thought you weren't going to r-replace me...y-you promised me....even if you moved on y-you wouldn't replace me....w-would ever love anyone a-as much as me." The ghost whispered.

Alex's heart ached at the pain in his voice.
"Darlin'... it was so hard when you died. And Lane... he makes me happy again. You always said you wanted me to be happy.... Baby I never wanted to replace you."

"I-I did and do want you to be happy....I-I just n-never thought you w-would love someone more than me....A-At first I expected it b-but then you fucking had to g-go and make me b-believe you w-would always l-love me, you m-made me b-believe y-you would never l-love anyone more...." The ghost sobbed.

"Because I thought I never would." Alex said softly.

"G-Great...." The ghost attempted to wipe its eyes. "I-I should have k-know better."
