Misfit

Drew's mother thanked the man and took him back to Drew's room with her.
"Mom... who's that?"
"This is the man who just saved Mike's life."
The man gave a small smile and nodded at Drew.
"I don't believe I caught your name.."
"Matt. Matthew Brooks."
Drew was confused.
"Mom where's Mike? And what do you mean saved his life?"
Together, Matt and Mrs. McIntyre told Drew what had happened.

Mike lay in the bed they gave him, they were doing a few tests on him nothing to drastic. But he didnt want to be alone, it was still raining and after this, he only feared these storms more.

"Sir would you go stay with Mike? I know he's frightened." Drew asked politely.
Matt nodded and walked off to Mike's room.
"Hey kid, how ya feelin?" He asked.

Mike glanced at him but said nothing else, he wanted to but he couldnt. He was so scared he could barley breath.

"Your boyfriend's worried about ya. He told me to come stay with you. Cause they won't let him."

Mike swallowed and nodded.
"Thank you for saving me sir."

"No problem kid. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I just stood by and let you fall."

Another loud clap of thunder and Mike let out a whimper and curled into a fetal position.

"Y'know kid, I've been struck by lightning before... doesn't hurt much." Matt said, leaning up against the door frame.

Mike ignored him, he was not helping at all.
Mike begged the nurse to let him have his phone, the thing was he went to get it, but then decided he didnt want to go outside.
He used a phone in the hospital to call one of his bestfriends who had gone away to war. He was just back vistiting and he wanted to see Mike and when Mike had heard Drew was in labor he had forgotten. He called his friend talked for a moment and told him he would answer his questions when he got here. thirty minutes later Quinton McDaniels strode into the room.

Matt eyed the large man as he strode in. He was about the same size as Matt. He nodded at him then looked at Mike.
"Be back." He walked up to Drew and asked if now that someone was here with Mike should he stay or go. Drew asked him to stay and kill Quinton if he tried anything with Mike. Matt laughed and agreed walking back to Mike's room and taking his position against the door frame.

Quinton leaned against the wall, he and Mike visited and talked about everything and nothing.

Matt just stood there watching. His gaze went from Mike to Quinton and back again.

Quinton sat on the edge of the bed and pulled his shirt up to show a long ragged scar the went the length across his chest.

Matt stared at the scar. And just Quinton's defined chest in general.
"How'd ya get that?" He asked.

Quinton glanced over at him.
"I got caught on enemy grounds and they tried to torture me so I would tell them where our base was."
Quinton shrugged.

Matt nodded.
War veteran. Nice. He pulled up a chair and sat beside Mike's bed.

Mike looked down.
"How long will you be here Quinton, when are you going back?"
Quinton smile and patted his back. "I got three months at the most, one at the least."

Matt mentally observed this. He wanted to get to know this man much better...

Mike sighed and hugged his friend.
"I dont want you to go."
Quinton smiled and hugged him back.
"Im fine and I havent even been here a week yet, enjoy me while you can."

Matt's phone suddenly rang. He talked for a moment before hanging up.
"Mike I'm supposed to ask you if you want Mrs. McIntyre to bring down the baby. Drew wants you to hold it."

"I don't really wanna hold it if thats okay...."
He sighed and put his head down, Quinton patter his back.

Matt called him back and told him Mike didn't want to. He frowned when Drew's voice cracked but he hung up.
"Any reason ya don't wanna hold your baby?" He asked. He didn't know the full story.

Mike stuttered for a moment before he began crying.
Quinton knew, Mike wrote him and called.

Quinton stood and pulled Mathew into the hallway.
"That baby is not his. Drew was raped, so thats what come of it."

"Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't know or I wouldn't have asked..." Matt usually wasn't one to apologize often but that must be hard for Mike and Drew.
