Only A Match, Right? (Anyone)

Jake weakly reached for his hand.
"T-Thaid I would protect you..."

"J-jake..." Adrian whimpered, intertwining their fingers. "I'm so not worth this much pain..."

Jake slowly brough the back of Adrian's hand up to his bloody lips and kissed it.
"I-If you weren't w-worth it, I wouldn't have done it B-Brat."

Adrian would have laughed if he wasn't bawling. Even in this state he had time to call him a brat.

The paramedics took Jake back to operate, try and stop the bleeding. They left Adrian in the waiting room.

Drew stood by his brother, hand comfortingly on his back.
"Adrian... I know it's probably hard but what happened?"
"T-toby... He was there." Adrian whispered.
"Toby... Benson?" Drew asked, voice filled with venom.
"Yes. I told Jake part of the story. And I freaked. I finally gave in and told him that was one of the guys who did it. He walked up and started a fight. And Toby had a knife..." Adrian let out a heavy sigh. "My fault."
"Adrian I'm sure he'll be fine..."

Jake was everything but fine.
The doctors thought he was dead.
The stab was deep.
He had lost so much blood.
His heart even stoped for a few minutes.
He was pronounced dead.
And that's what they told Adrian and Drew.

Drew looked at his brother in worry, wondering what his reaction would be. He himself felt awful. Jake really was a nice guy.
A heartbreaking sob tore through Adrian's throat. He shoved Drew's comforting embrace away as he collapsed on the waiting room floor, tears pouring down his face.
The thing that had made him forget about that horrible night. The man he could have loved. His only chance at a real relationship. GONE. Gone before it had even started.

The doctor was walking away when Jake's hand shot out and grabed his.
He was not dead.
He was a fighter.
He was fighting.
To stay with Adrian.
The doctos went back to work.

No one informed Adrian and Drew of this.
"Adrian... why don't we go home... you don't need this." Drew sighed.
"NO!" Adrian screamed. "I WILL NOT!" He was not leaving Jake. He refused even if he was dead.

It took hours, but a nurse did come back.
"Mr. McIntyre, Mr. Hager is alive and stable now. They just put him in a room. Im sorry, we told you he was gone, but he really was. His heart stoped and everything but he just, came back."
She smiled.
"Would you two like to come back and see him?"

Adrian blushed. Now he just felt stupid. He nodded and stood. Drew smiled and walked back to where they led him to see Jake.

Jake was hooked up to various machines, it was hard to breath and he was trying to sleep, escape the pain.

Adrian smiled at his figure.
"Your brat's here Jake..." He whispered but other than that, stayed completely silent, not wanting to disturb him.

Jake slowly cracked one eye open.
"H-How ith my b-brat feeling?" He rasped.

"I'm fine Jake... the real question is how are you?" Adrian whispered.

"Now that I know your okay, im fine brat."
He wasn't but he knew that Adrian was okay so he no longer worried about himself.

"Jake... you're not. I can see that you're not..." Adrian sighed, squeezing Jake's hand.

"Im alive aren't I?"
He was breathing so as far as he was concerened he was okay.

"But you're so close to dying..." Adrian whispered as Drew strolled into the room.

Jake frowned as he noticed the tear streaks on Adrian's face. He weakly lifted a hand and cupped Adrian's cheek.
"Don't you be crying over me Brat. Im not worth it."

"You just got stabbed trying to hurt him for hurting me. I'd say your worth crying over."
Drew leaned back against the door, taking in the scene with a small smile. For some reason Adrian really did like Jake. Who was he to interfere?

"He detherved it." Jake grumbled, no one should hurt any one like that. Especially not anyone as sweet at Adrian.

"Adrian... some of the police officers are down in the main lobby... they want to ask you a few questions. Toby's being arrested but they're still investigating." Drew finally spoke up.
Adrian nodded.
"I'll be back." He leaned down and kissed Jake's forehead before walking out the door.

Jake sighed and eyed Drew warily. He soon closed his eyes though, trying to sleep.
