The Hardest Part of Parenthood

"Jeff nodded slowly. "Just.......try to be here in the morning, for Hailey's sake," Jeff said.

Mike nodded. "Ill try." Mike left the house and got back in his car. Mike was driving back to the bar when a drunk man, happend to be heading his way. Mike couldnt avoid it and the druck driver hit him straight on.

Jeff sighed and sat down in Hailey's room to keep an eye on her. He hoped Mike was going to be alright in the morning............

Paramedics came, and went; taking Mike and the drunk driver to the hostpital. Mike Mizanin was pronounced dead 3 hours later, he last words were "Tell Jeff and Hailey I love them with all my heart." The doctor who had tried to save Mike and failed called Jeff, having found his numbrer in Mike's contact list; apparently Mike was trying to call him when he was hit.

Jeff looked up at his phone when it started to ring. "Hello?" Jeff asked.

"Hello," The doctor answered, his heart heavy. "Is the Mr. Jeff Hardy?"

"This is he," Jeff said, praying Hailey's dream hadn't become reality........

"Well sir, im sorry to inform you that last night around 1 in the morning," The doctor swallowed thickly, he hated this part of his job. "That your lover, Mr. Michael Mizanin was in a car accident....he didn't make it." The doctor cleared his throat. "You or some one else will need to come by the morgue and claim the body."

Jeff bit his lip and turned to look at his daughter. She'd already lost her mother, now Mike, poor girl was going to be so upset........ "Yes sir," Jeff drawled sadly, wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Im so sorry for your loss Mr. Hardy." The doctor was about to hand up when he remembered. "His last words were were for us to tell you that he loved a Jeff and a Hailey with all his heart." And then the doctor hung up.

Jeff wiped his eyes and hung up the phone when he realized Hailey was staring at him. "What wrong daddy?" Hailey asked. Jeff took a deep breath and sat back in the rocking chair. "C'mere darlin," Jeff drawled softly. "Daddy needs to talk to you." Hailey nodded and climbed into his lap, somehow, she knew. "Daddy Mikey got hurted didn't he?" Hailey asked. Jeff nodded slowly. Yeah sweetheart, he did," Jeff sniffled. "He's went with my momma?" Hailey asked, tears forming in her eyes. Jeff simply nodded, holding Hailey close as she started to cry. "I telled him not to go daddy, I tried," Hailey said. "I know you did sweetheart, we both did....."

Daffy had been strolling around the hospital when he passed the morgue and was drawn back to it by a familiar face. Daffy entered the morgue where the body of his childhood bestfriend lat. Daffy squeezed his eyes shut and the gently grabbed up Mike's cold hand. "Hey there buddy." Daffy's southern accsent was thick. "Whatch'a done gone n' gotten your self into this time Mikey?" Daffy found a chair and sat down, keeping the corpse of Michael Mizanin company. Daffy would admit he cried. He cried hard for a few moments, he loved Mike and he knew Mike wouldn't want him cry; hell knowing Mike he would probably laugh and pick at him as a means of cheering him up. So Daffy sat there, in the dark, all alone with the dead bodies.

Later that day after Jeff had dropped Hailey off with his brother, Jeff went to do the one thing he'd never thought he'd have to do. He had to claim his lover's body. Jeff hadn't wanted Hailey to have to go through this, not again. Just a number of weeks before he and Mike had stood on either side of her when she had to bury her mother. Now they would be standing there alone as they buried Jeff one true and only love

Daffy, if you believe it or not was still talking to a dead man. He and Mike had always be so close so Daffy figured Mike could hear him.

Jeff stood at the entrance of the morgue for what seemed like an eternity. He didn't want to do this. Part of him was just waiting to wake up from this horrible nightmare and see Mike smiling again. He knew that wasn't going to happen. He took a deep breath and walked inside.....

Daffy was still talking. "So Mikey, what were ya doin drivin round' at like 1 in the monrin'?" Daffy smiled. "I heard ya fell in love witha Hardy. I bet hes a good man, probly misses ya you ass." Daffy shook his head. "You always did have your self a knack for need meh to help ya....looks like this time ya lucked out Mikey."

"I do miss him," Jeff muttered lowly as he walked into the room. The tear tracks were still visible on his cheeks. He hadn't been able to stop crying since he dropped off Hailey.

Daffy jumped into a fighting position yelling about zombies. "Oh....your not a zombie." Daffy nodded his head stupidly. "Sorry." Daffy Smiled, extending his hand. "Im Daffy."

Jeff shook Daffy's hand. "Jeff," the rainbow haired man spoke sadly.

Daffy grinned at Jeff. " Imma guess your tha man Mikey talked so highly bout'" Daffy's eyes wondered over to Mike. "It's nice ta meet tha love of ma best buddies life."

Jeff wiped his eyes, nodding. "Just yesterday afternoon he'd asked me to marry him," Jeff said, running a finger over the ring Mike had given him.

Daffy hummed. "Well, Michael did always have tha worst timin." Daffy look Mike over again. "You ainst got to look at em' if ya don't want Darlin', I already done it." Daffy looked at Jeff sympathetically.

"It's our daughter I'm worried about," Jeff said. "We just buried her mother a few weeks back."

Daffy gave a funny look. "Well damn, Mike never really wanted kids." Daffy grinned at Jeff. "Imma guess ya' changed em' for tha' better huh?" Daffy went over to Mike's body and stroked Mike's cheek.

"I'd like to think so," Jeff replied.
