From The Inside Out.

Dayton paused, saying nothing.
He figured David was talking to someone on the phone or someone else had walked in.

"Dayton?" He raised an eyebrow at his son. "What happened?"

Dayton turned to face his father with a small smile.
"Nothing, I pissed momma off is all."

"Your momma hit you like that?" He frowned deeply. He understood a pop in the mouth but he'd made him BLEED. That was not okay...

"I dont know if he meant to, sure im used to getting popped in the mouth and momma is kinda strong so like...After he did it, he kinda looked surprised, yelled for another minute and left talking to himself so." Dayton shrugged softly, happy as he could get having his father ask about HIM and not Ezra.

"Ima talk to him about that..." David frowned, shaking his head.

Dayton was touched but...
If David got onto Dewayne....
His mother might not even talk to him to yell anymore.
"No dad...Please don't."

"I don't like him making you bleed Dayton, or either of your brothers. You guys are my baby boys.."

"Daddy..."That struck a nerve in Dayton...He loved David talking to him but him and Wayne had not been David's babies since Ezra was found out to have his problem.
Since then Dayton and Wayne were just....his OTHER kids.
"Just don't alright?"
It had been going on for years..

David frowned.
"Okay..." He sighed.

Dayton smiled lightly, fussing with some salve he was trying to put on his lip, his shoilder slumping.

David gently took it from him, putting it on his son's lip for him..

Dayton watching his father, his big brown eyes hazed with a happy pain.
"Thank you daddy..."

"You're welcome sweetie." He kissed his son's cheek. He was a good father really.... he tried to be...

Dayton nodded, hugging David.
He was a good father, he was just far to concerned with one child because of a problem to pay the others much attention.
Even when Wayne burned himself in a fire.
Even when Dayton shattered his wrist.
Even when Wayne was gone for a month without notice.
Even when Dayton was put in a special class because he was dyslexic.
But why should they get any attention, Ezra was the horribly ill one.

David was realizing he knew pretty much nothing about two of his children...
"So... how are you?"

"Fine. Just dandy." Dayton nodded happily. "Im actually going to pass this school year." He nodded.
His parents had been to busy to get him a tutor...he had been held back five time.

"Thats great baby!" He smiled proudly at him.

Dayton smiled but his heart ached.
His father probably didnt even know what grade he was in...

"Hey, what do ya say sometime you, me and Wayne go out together? Do something? I'm not sure what but..."

Dayton blinked at him, giving a huge face splitting smile.
"I would love to and im sure Wayne would too..."

David grinned back at him.
"Great, I'll ask him next time I see him." He nodded. "We'll leave your momma and Ezra to do their girly shit. While we go be all manly." He chuckled.

"Oh sure because your just so manly!" He chuckled at his father. "Wayne and me are way manlier."

"Yes I am totally manly with my chick hair!" He nodded, shaking his long blonde hair in his son's face.

Dayton lightly ruffled his fathers hair.
"Wayne has your long chick hair cept its Momma's color."
