Don't Take the Boy

"Alright Matt, we're gonna try something and see how you're doing," Kiara told him. "I'm gonna turn this machine over here off so it's not breathing for you anymore and I want you to try and see how well you can breathe without it okay?"

Matt looked at his momma worriedly

"It's okay baby, you can do it," Ruby said. "I'm right here baby."

Matt looked to the doctor and nodded

Kiara stepped over to the machine and flipped the switch, watching Matt carefully.

Matt sat still and realised he was still having a little trouble breathing he looked at his momma scared

"It's alright sweetie," Ruby said softly. Kiara smiled. "We're gonna take you off of this honey," Kiara said."

Matt nodded and let them do what they need to do

Kiara slowly eased the tube out of Matt's throat. "There, how's that feel?" Kiara asked.

"a little better." answered Matt softly

Kiara smiled and handed Matt a small Styrofoam cup of water. "Here honey, this'll help a little."

Matt smiled softly and took a drink "thank you." then he asked "where's Sammy?"

"They had to take her somewhere so they could help her, she'll be here soon." Kiara said.

Matt nodded and let out a big yawn

"Now......" Kiara said. "I have good news, and bad news."

"what?" questioned Matt a little bit scared

"Well, I don't have to put you back on one of those big machines," Kiara said. "but I gotta put another little tube back in."

Matt looked at his momma and whimpered

"It's alright baby," Ruby soothed. "I'm right here, I've got you."

Matt nodded and let the doctor do what she needed to do

Kiara smiled when she was done. "You did great," she said.

Matt smiled and asked "can i see Sammy now"

"Not yet honey," Kiara said. "We're still fixin' her up."

"will she be ok?" asked Matt worried for his new friend

"She's gonna be just fine sweetie," Kiara said. "Don't worry."
