How You Remind Me

"Baby you know I still love you right?" Alex asked. "I'll never stop loving you."

Mike just shook his head. "Don't feed me that line of bull shit Alex! Y-Your going to forget all about me, I dont matter anymore, y-you dont care anymore." His shoulders shook as he held himself, but of course Alex couldn't see.

"Mike! I'll never forget about you! I've loved you for over twenty five years now!"

"Y-Yeah, and that ended when you and C-Critter got together. I-I wanted you to be happy...I still want you to be happy b-but." Mike felt so selfish but he didn't want AL ex to love Critter more. It hurt so fucking bad. Alex was everything and now he is gone.

"Mike, my love for you will never end. Just because I'm with Lane now doesnt mean I don't love you."

"B-But you love him more. Y-You would let me go for h-him!" God he was a selfish bastard, Alex didn't need this but he had to tell someone.

"Baby.." Alex couldn't lie to Mike and say that wasn't true.

Mike let out a another heart breaking sob as he felt his everything crumble. He was all alone now, Alex had left him.....Alex had left him.....
For some reason in his pain the transparent effect wore off, he was visible, touchable. He held himself, rocking back and forth as he cried.

Alex felt the warm tears finally fall down his cheeks. He held Mike and did the only thing he knew how when Mike was upset.
"...It's 3 AM
And I finally say
I'm sorry for acting that way
Didn't really mean to make you cry
Oh baby
Sometimes I wonder why..."

"STOP IT!" The ghost wailed as he scrambled to get away from Alex. That was not his husband anymore...he was going to be Critters. Alex made Critter a song, Mike had been replaced......

"Baby will you sing me your song?" Alex asked softly.

"W-Why? I-Its over, its doesn't matter anymore." Mike sobbed. "I-I.....Y-You....H-He." Mike choked on the words.

"Just please." Alex said softly. He wasn't really sure of the answer.

Mike rubbed his eyes and took a shaky breath, he couldn't believe he was really going to do this.

"Love takes the patience of Job
That's what my Mama always said
Faith is the belief in something more than what you know
That's what the good book says....."
Mike sniffled.
"You gotta play the cards you got
Who knows what fate is holding
At times you gotta go
Without knowing where you're going"

Alex couldn't take it anymore. Mike singing pushed him over the edge. He broke down into sobs.
"I miss you so much Mike."

Mike twiddled his thumbs, looking down. He wanted to hold Alex.....But Alex wasn't his to have and to hold anymore....soon he would be Critter's
"I-I miss you too...."
He finished his verse.
"That's why I keep on lovin' you, I keep on lovin' you
Through the baby-don't-leave-mes
And never-will-agains
And I-promise-tos, I keep on lovin' you...."

Alex bit back even more tears. Was it wrong that he wanted just one more kiss? Of course it was, he was engaged now. He scolded himself but it didn't do anything to stop him from wanting it.

Mike hugged himself, he was miserable. His husband was gone, had left him. "Alex loved Lane more"
It just kept ringing in Mike's ears.

"Lord k-knows we've had o-our share of f-fights
Our sleepless n-nights, our ups and downs
We've had p-plenty and then some
Of baby-I'm-gones and t-turnarounds"

Alex wanted to bury his head in the pillow and cry. And scream. And pound his fists and whine how it wasn't fair that he had to choose. But really it wasn't fair to Mike and Critter that he loved both of them so much.

"S-sometimes I s-swear it might be easier
To th-throw in the towel
Someday we're gonna look back
And say l-look at us n-now"
How untrue was that? There was no going back, even if Mike was alive. Alex would chose Critter. Alex really didn't want him anymore.....

"Mike... I-I know this isn't f-fair to ask of y-you. But c-can I kiss you? J-Just one last time..."

Mike sighed, he hated this, hated himself. Critter had stolen his husband, made Alex love him more....
But he still wanted Alex to be happy even if he was miserable.
"A-Alex.....Lane"
Mike knew Alex cared more about Lane than himself so he knew.....he wouldn't be getting a kiss but its not like the kiss would mean anything to Alex.

Alex hung his head. He had given up everything to be with Lane. He couldn't make Lane upset with him by kissing another man. Even if that man was Mike.
"Sorry... I shouldn't have asked."

Mike hung his head.
No one loved him anymore
"Y-You left me......"
He might have been the one to die but he still loved Alex just as much as he always had.

"Baby I... I'm sorry. But I can't deal with you hating me... I wanted to tell you in person. I didn't want you to find out by listening in when I told Critter... I'm so sorry." Alex sighed.
