I Will Stand By You Forever

Critter ignored him and went off to talk to Alex and Mike.
He walked up to the table and sat down.
October smiled, Alex Jr glanced at him.
Mike acted as if he weren't there.

"Alex, why not invite your daddy to the wedding?"
Alex glared. " I did, he didn't come."
"We never got an invitation."
"I sent one."
Critter was confused by this. Mike looked at Alex. "I think Daffy took it, he had what looked looked a wedding invitation in his hand a while ago."
"Yellow blue and white?"
"Yes."
Alex sighed. "That was it." He looked at Critter. "See I did invite him."
Critter nodded and tried to talk to Mike who wouldn't even look at him.\
Critter sighed and got up, going back to Alex.

Alex looked up.
"So? What happened?" He asked.

"Alex invited you...Daffy got the invitation so we didn't. You didn't show up and it hurt him." Critter sat down.

"Lane... how upset would you be if I killed myself so I could go beat that man to a pulp?" Alex said this as if it was the sweetest thing in the world.

"Don't talk like that Alex." He said it in a firm voice, he would not hear this.
"Mike wouldn't even look at me."

Sydney stood a few feet away with some boy she'd just met. Turned out to be Chris's younger brother but she didn't know that. She heard the conversation.
"Excuse me Rick." She smiled and walked over to her mother.

Mike was listening to October talk about how she and Alex met and how sweet he was when he proposed. Laughed at how red his cheeks got.

"Momma? Can I talk to you?" Sydney asked quietly.

Mike glanced up and nodded, excusing self and telling October he would be back. He went with his daughter to a private space.
"Yes Sweety?"

"W-why won't you talk to daddy... or Critter?" She looked up at him, baby blue eyes so innocent.

"I can baby....I just can't" Mike shook his head.
"It too hard, I can't bear it." He shuddered as a tear fell.
"The hardest thing to do is watch the one you love, love someone else...."

"It's okay momma." She gave her mother a tight hug. "But momma please don't be too mad at Critter. He didn't purposely do this. You've been friends for so long."

"Its okay for you baby but not for me, it wont ever be ok for me again...."
Mike sighed.
"I know he has but I just can't............"

Sydney sighed.
"At least say something to daddy. He's going crazy over there.."

"What do I say? What do you expect me to say?"
Mike's eyes were colder, dull and lifeless.

"Just hello. Something to let him know you don't hate him."

"I could never hate him. I still love him just as much as always."
He sighed.

"Then tell him that momma." Sydney sighed and kissed her mothers cheek.

"I already have. He has heard it over and over again, but it doesn't matter and he doesn't care." Mike trembled.

"Momma he does care. He loves you too. I knew he does. He's told me."

"No....He loves Lane now. Im the past, im forgotten. He loves Lane more than he ever loved me...Lanes his future."

"Momma he still loves you, trush me." Sydney reassured.

"Not like he does Lane, not as much as he does Lane." His lips quivered.

"Momma..." Sydney sighed. "Come with me." She drug her momma over to Alex and Critter.

"Sydney damnit let me go." Mike growled as he yanked his hand away when she stopped at the table. He clenched his jaw and turned around.
