Surprise........Daddy

Social worker Tammy forester sat in her office with three year old twins Alanna and Aiden. She'd been in this line of work for a long time, but never in her 35 years had see seen children this badly abused. Aiden was covered in scars from the beatings, and they'd had to send Alanna though detox after she'd developed a forced heroin addiction. Thankfully, the twins would be safe now, their caregivers had been hauled off to jail and their father, Randy Orton was about to get the shock of his life........

It was noon and Randy was still sleeping, cozily tucked into the blanket, never wanting to move again. Not like he had a job, he didn't need one. His father had given him all the money he'd ever need. He lived alone in a small house although he could afford much more. But this lonely life was just fine for him. The phone rang out in the living room. Randy groaned and got out of bed.
"Hello?" He answered.

"Hello, Mr. Orton," Tammy replied. "My name is Tammy Forester, I'm with Child Protective Services, we'd like to see you in our office as soon as possible, it's very important, I'll explain in detail when you get here."

Randy's brow furrowed. Child Protective Services?
"Ma'am, I think you've made a mistake. You must've called the wrong number. I have no children."

"Please Mr, Orton," Tammy replied. "Just come down to the office and we'll talk about this," Tammy said. "Everything will be straightened out here."

Randy continued to question the woman. He got very upset at the lack of information she was giving him. He eventually got the address to the place and headed out to his car.

Tammy hung up the phone and watched the twins out of the corner of her eye. They hadn't so much as moved an inch since coming into the office. Aiden sat in the car, protectively holding his sister close to him. The poor girl was shaking, as if she were waiting for the yelling to start. Her Belle doll pulled tightly to her chest.

Randy arrived at the office and walked inside. He asked for Tammy like she had told him to and was led to a room at the end of the hallway.

The twins were escorted into another room. Tammy didn't want him to see them just yet, nor did she want to risk scaring them. "Mr. Orton, thank you for coming," Tammy said. "Please, have a seat, we have a lot to discuss."

Randy cautiously sat down across from her.
"So what is all this about?"

Tammy opened the file in her hand and slid a picture of the accused abuser across the desk. The twins father, Wade Barrett. "Do you recognize the man in that photo?" Tammy asked.

"Well, yes. He was an old... friend of mine." Randy said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. Wade was an ex boyfriend. They hadn't spoken since the breakup. It'd been quite violent.

"Mr. Orton," Tammy began. "There's no need to lie, we know yourself and Mr. Barrett were more than that," she added. "He's told that much since he was taken into custody."

"Wait, taken into custody? What in the world for?" Randy asked incredulously. Wade had never been one to break the laws.

"Child abuse and drug possession," Tammy said simply. "Abuse of children he claims to be yours."

"Mine?" Randy's eyes widened. "No, Tammy, you must have the wrong guy. Wade would've told me if he was having my children."

"See them for yourself before you make that decision Mr. Orton," Tammy said. She tapped the wall behind her and her assistant brought the twins back into the room. Aiden looked at Randy for a split second before wrapping his arms around his shaking sister.

Randy's jaw dropped as he laid eyes on the two children. Especially the girl. His eyes were identical to hers.
He must've been dreaming. He closed his eyes and pinched himself. He opened them. Nope, the children were still there.

Alanna looked at Randy, the years of fear and pain were clear in her eyes, a few tears rolling down her cheeks as she clung tightly to her brother. "What to change that statement Mr. Orton," Tammy asked.

"Okay, they're definitely mine." Randy admitted, not able to take his eyes off of the children in front of him.

"Now, comes the reason you're here," Tammy said. "With Mr. Barrett incarcerated at the moment, the twins have no where to go," she said. "being that you would be next to receive custody, it's your choice, they can be sent to stay with you, or put into foster care."

Randy didn't know what to say. He didn't want these children. He couldn't raise two kids on his own. But he'd had a brief stay in a foster home himself and it was horrible. He didn't want to make them stay there.
"I'll... I'll take care of them." He decided finally.

Tammy nodded. "I'll have my assistant get the paperwork together for you," Tammy said. Aiden's eyes narrowed at Randy. He didn't want to go with him. He didn't trust him, not one bit.

Randy forced a small smile.
"Um... hello there."

"Hi," Aiden muttered. Instinctively he pulled his sister closer to him. He wasn't going to let her get hurt, not again, not anymore.
