I Dream Of Death

Lane froze, his heart cracking like something akin to kindling. "Oh yeah, your leaving me for Mike huh?"

"I... I g-guess so..." Alex's own heart ached. He just wanted to feel Lane's lips once more if this was goodbye...

Lane laughed as a hand covered his face.
"I should have known you would, I was so careful not to trust anyone, not to let them past arms length. Then you came alone and some how got under my skin DAMNIT!"
His voice wobbled with tears, it cracked and splintered.
Lane dug the palm of his hands into his eyes, trying to make himself remember why he had let Alex in.
"Why did I let myself fall in love with you, its was so stupid! I was so stupid to think you would even stay with me!"
a sob tore through his throat.

Alex's lower lip trembled. Couldn't Lane tell? Couldn't he see the doubt in his eyes? It took everything he had not to break right there. Tell Lane the truth.

Lane sat on the edge of the bed, trying to stop the tears, trying ti make the sobs quiet. "Fuck, I was so stupid. Why did I let you in? I should have known. Happy ending are only stories that have yet to end. I should have know I couldn't be happy. I should have known you would take Mike back and I would be left out to dry!" Lane punched a hole in the brick wall, the wall broke, so did his hand but he was too hystarical, pained because of his heart to notice. He let out a loud broken scream before getting up and walking away.

Alex stared after him, heart split into a thousand pieces. Never had he ever seen Lane so broken.
Don't do it, don't do it, don't go after him...
He stood and followed Lane out the door.

Lane made his way out of the house just ad Quinton and Sarah got there. Quinton growled and took Alex in his arms, Alex was hurt and weak so if not even Lane could get away he couldn't either.
"Alex damnit, see what you did?"
The door closed, Lane was gone.

"I h-had to..." Alex sobbed, burying his head in this man's chest. He'd just met him but he didn't care.

Quinton growled and held Alex.
"Was it worth it to see him so heart broken because of your lie."

"Mike would be worse." He reassured himself although he wasn't so sure.

"Alex, Mike is so fucked up now, I dont think you can get him back but if you want to try go ahead."

"F-fine." Alex stumbled out of Quinton's arms. He was so sore after the running.
"Wh-where is he?"

"In his room where he always is."
Quinton left to go find Lane and calm him down.

Alex walked to Miike's room. He stopped right outside the door and took a deep breath. Mike could always tell when he was lying. He'd have to try very hard to make this believeable.

Mike was sitting on his bed as usual, his eyes void as he listened. He had heard Lane's heart break and he knew it was a bold faced lie, the line of bull shit Alex had fed him.

Alex walked in, fake smile plastered on his tearsoaked face.
"Hi darlin."

Mike glared.
"Alex, dont fed me that line of bull shit I know you too well. We both know you would rather have Lane so dont come in here, calling me your darling or your baby, dont try and pacify me."

"Baby, you heard me just tell Lane. I choose you." Alex said, refusing to let this go.

"Alex, I did hear but it was bull and you know it. Im your second choice, I wont be here because you feel obliged. I want you to keep me because you love me more, I mothered your kids, I loved you for thirty years but no, oyu just promised and I wont except that."

"Mike. I do love you more. Aaren't you listening to me?" Alex insisted.

"If you loved me you wouldnt have to lie Alex, drop the act. I know you too well to think your telling the truth."

"What act? I choose you Mike. Isn't that what you wanted?"

"Alex."
Mike stood up.
"I want you to be happy. You dont love me anymore, you love him, he makes you happier than I ever have."

"I do love you Mike." That part was not a lie. "I want you. Not him." And that was.

"Lie one more fucking time and I will knock the shit out of you. Maybe you love me but you want HIM not ME and you will fess up or I wont even look at you anymore."
